How to Write Product Descriptions That Actually Sell
Your product description is your salesperson. Most sellers get it completely wrong. Here's a simple framework that converts browsers into buyers.
Most sellers write product descriptions like this: "Beautiful dress. Available in red and blue. Size 8–16. Contact me to order."
This sells nothing. Here's why — and how to fix it.
The problem with most descriptions
They describe the product, not the benefit. Customers don't buy a dress — they buy looking beautiful at their sister's wedding.
The 4-part framework
1. Lead with the main benefit
Start with what the customer gets, not what the product is. "Stay cool all day in this breathable ankara set — perfect for Lagos heat."
2. List 3–5 key features as bullet points
After the benefit hook, give the facts: material, size, color, quantity, weight.
3. Handle the main objection
Think about what makes customers hesitate and address it directly. "All items are brand new with original packaging."
4. End with a clear call to action
Tell them exactly what to do next. "Order via WhatsApp for same-day delivery in Lagos."
Photos matter more than words
The best description in the world can't overcome a blurry photo. Always lead with at least one clear, well-lit photo.
